  Mathematics Through Games

  Playing games can be a fun way for the whole family to engage in some mathematical thinking. Many games provide a great context for children to practise using number and calculation skills along with:

  • Strategic thinking
    
  • Problem solving
    
  • Collaboration
    
  • Resilience
    

  In this section you will find ideas for games that can be played just with pencil and paper eg noughts and crosses, reminders of traditional favourites like Snakes and Ladders and Monopoly. There are also links to a variety of on line interactive games, many of which once learnt, can also be played with pencil and paper and a few counters.

  Children can also be very adept and enjoy inventing  their own games by creating their own tracks and playing boards based on games they have played before.
