The aim of this course is to explore and develop ideas, pedagogies and associated subject knowledge to promote and enhance the teaching of times tables in the classroom. Teachers will engage in mathematics from the primary curriculum and explore mental strategies in order to support pupils’ conceptual understanding to mental fluency.

Learning Outcomes

• Improve pupils’ progress in the multiplication tables check.
• Develop strategies to support knowledge recall of the times tables and associated division facts.
• Support teachers’ knowledge of conceptual and relational understanding to develop times table fluency.
• Provide opportunities for teachers to discuss next steps for key groups of pupils based upon assessment.

Over three face-to-face half-day sessions this course will explore key issues in leading and managing mathematics teaching and learning in the primary years. Delegates will develop their understanding of their role as mathematics subject leader.  

As part of the course, a bespoke individual virtual session of one hour will be booked during the summer term with each participant to discuss their own professional needs and support them with their mathematics action plan.

This Planning Tool for pupils with SEND, developed by the HIAS Mathematics and English teams has been successfully used in schools over recent years to aid teachers in meeting the learning needs of pupils with SEND. The planning tool supports teachers to identify an appropriate starting point and plan aspirational expectations of progress over time. It is intended that the tool is used to create suitably personalised learning for individual pupils. We now offer these Planning Tools electronically at reduced rates.
