This course aims to develop Key Stage 2 teachers’ pedagogy on how to use the concrete, pictorial and abstract (CPA) approach to enhance pupils’ conceptual understanding when calculating.
Learning outcomes:
- Teachers will understand how to use concrete resources effectively to support their pupils’ understanding.
- Teachers will explore how to use the CPA approach to secure the pupils’ conceptual understanding when calculating.
- Teachers will have a range of strategies on how the CPA approach can be used for a variety of different domains: addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
