A mathematics intervention programme for pupils who are working below age-related expectations and will need additional support to secure the key skills in number and place value and the four operations so that they are able to overcome barriers to learning and make accelerated progress. This programme works alongside the HIAS schemes of learning and would also complement a blocked unit approach. Pathway to Progress can also be used alongside
Diagnostic Mathematics Tasks.
How the programme should be deliveredWhilst the programme can be used as a stand-alone programme, it is more effective if used as a tool to securing prior learning.
These sessions will support pupils securing with key concepts from the previous units plans. This knowledge will support pupils
when accessing age-related work in class.
- To keep the momentum of learning, it should be delivered at least three times a week, either 1:1 or in small groups of no more than 3 pupils.
- Each session is designed to be approximately 20 - 30 minutes.
- The optimum group size is no more than 3 pupils to allow teachers the time to gain an in-depth insight into the pupils’ barriers to learning and misconceptions.
Each resource pack consists of:
- A4 colour Teacher Guidance book
- One set of colour A5 activity cards
