This course consists of two webinar sessions that will give teachers an opportunity to review the Year 5 curriculum, understanding the prior learning that pupils need to secure alongside preparing pupils for Year 6. Time will be spent exploring how the concrete, pictorial, abstract approach will enable pupils to develop a conceptual understanding of mathematics and effective problem solving strategies will be shared to support pupils in understanding mathematical language and identifying the calculation/s within a problem. Diagnostic assessment, variation to challenge all learners, as well as questioning within task design will also be explored during the sessions. The course will provide teachers with a useful framework to plan a unit of work based upon key skills that will effectively prepare pupils for the Y6 curriculum.
